A real gem, with very friendly staff and exceptional views. We have been visiting Elephant Whispers for 5 years and have always admired the lovely lodges across the river. as my partner was going to be 65 whilst we were in SA I decided to look up the hotel, in the faint hope we could afford it. I had the most pleasant shock of my life and a river view lodge was just £78 including breakfast. You wouldn't even get a very poor Travelodge for that in UK. The staff had left a handwritten message on the bed wishing my partner a happy birthday and every single person we came across was lovely. I had read some of the less positive reviews before arriving and all I can say is they either have a much higher standard of living than we do or expect a great deal more. if you are looking for a luxury boutique hotel then it's probably not for you but if you want charm, helpful polite staff, a comfortable bed, good food and the most incredible view then I would highly recommend it.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hippo Hollow. The location is close to all the excitement at Kruger National Park, which makes it convenient. Great Facilities like pools , restaurant on site serving good food , security, the hippo visits during dinner were such a treat! Rooms cleaned nicely daily. When we went on the very early game drive, they packed us breakfast packs, which was thoughtful. We also won the giant Easter chocolate bunny..which was fun! Great service , from reception, to waitresses to cleaning and security..very attentive.

It was very special… The estate was clean with friendly stuff (Grace the waitress for keeps)… I enjoyed the food: best meal bacon avo on mash with mushroom sauce! Receptionist (Matshidiso? Forgot the name) effective in communication & making arrangements: safari drive (Musa was too kind) & spa (the ladies were just too sweet)… The only bad part about the river houses, NO NETWORK 😭 plus not having a phone in the house to call the reception & their unavailability after hours… Not a spoiler though…

We loved everything! From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome! The location is central to a lot of things to do, but even just spending some days around the pool or waiting to see the elephants and hippos walk by is enough. The staff members across all teams were so kind, a lot of them have a place in my heart. We encountered some hiccups not relating to Hippo Hollow and the team helped solve the problems twice! You won't be disappointed if you stay here!

Clean landscaped grounds with beautiful plants and clean pools. Cozy beautifully decorated cottage with fun art and lighting. The cottage we booked has a small kitchenette and a beautiful view of the Sabie River. we saw birds, hippos and tamed elephants. Car can be parked next to the cottage.
